“In the midst of happiness, one may not appreciate what happiness is.” -Unknown
Achieving self-satisfaction has always been a priority in my life. However, accomplishment of this goal requires us to let go of the ‘hang ups’ we have about ourselves and to learn how to accept things the way they are. Of course, we will always have to deal with the trials and tribulation that come with it; but we have to keep in mind that God has a special plan for us.
Here lately, it seems that my husband and I have faced several challenging situations that have really taken a toll on us mentally. The day-to-day stress was beginning to break down our faith, causing us to question everything that came our way. It isn’t good when you are ready to give up because you feel like you have no other options. But, there is always an option, one word: God!
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
Our trials are supposed to make us stronger, not only mentally, but also spiritually. God does not put us through more than we can handle; however, there are times when we may think otherwise. I feel that one of the hardest things to deal with is having a lack of satisfaction in life. We strive to live comfortably, but tend to forget that we must go through hardships in order for us to appreciate and value all that we have been blessed with. I try not to look at my possessions as something that has been ‘given’ to me; instead, I see everything as a ‘blessing’. Having a grateful spirit allows us to feel more at peace about our lifestyle and it also helps us to understand that materials aren’t everything.
The key thing for us to learn is how to properly handle our troubling situations. The most typical way we respond to our trials is through stress. Our moods affect every area of our being as we struggle to find inner peace. As most of us already know, the phrase “when it rains, it pours” is very true; especially when it comes to the matters of life. Although, I feel that we bring a lot of unnecessary stress on ourselves because of the way we ‘exaggerate’ our situations. We all have our own thoughts as to how something should end up; but deep down we also know that problems are to be expected. We are prone to go through ‘what we think’ is a hardship and when it doesn’t go our way, we instantly want to give up. Jesus, on the other hand, was put through trial after trial and he NEVER gave up. Sure, there are different measures of how bad things can be; but if we would only keep our faith, God will see us through it.
It would be nice if we could all have an ‘easy’ button attached to us, for when times get tough we can take the best option. Unfortunately though, we have to take what life gives us and just know that by staying strong we can make it through anything! Just remember that when life gives you a challenge, Jesus was put through the worst and He still loved everyone as if nothing ever happened. One thought: when the going gets tough, God gets you going!
